HOUSTON – Beauty’s Community Garden in Independence Heights has a new sprinkler system, thanks to a local business that stepped up to help.
The garden, located in the 3200 block of Airline Drive near East 32nd Street, was previously featured by 2 Helps You for how it has been serving the community.
At the time, founder Yvette Leno was working to keep the community garden growing without a sprinkler system.
That caught the attention of 2 Helps You, which reached out to Sprinklers By Design.
Owner Issa Al Dalgamouni and his family-run company designed and installed a new sprinkler system for the garden at no cost to the organization.
For Al Dalgamouni, the project is about more than installing sprinklers.
“It gives riches to my soul. It keeps me going. I am doing something that I am proud of.”
Al Dalgamouni started the business six years ago. His two sons and nephew also helped with the installation, turning the project into both a family experience and a lesson in giving back.
“That’s going to be a very huge lesson for them. Give back! Give back. Listen, this county gave us so much. The least we can do is just give something back,” said Dalgamouni.
For Leno, the new system means the garden can continue serving the community without worrying about how to keep it watered.
“It means everything to the garden.”
When she saw the completed system, Leno celebrated the moment.
“Whoo! My gosh, we don’t have to worry anymore.”
Leno said she always believed the garden would eventually get the help it needed, but she didn’t expect it to happen so quickly.
“I know that if it doesn’t happen one way, it will happen another way, but it will happen. But sure enough, it happened through Channel 2.”
And the help doesn’t stop with the installation.
Al Dalgamouni and his team told Leno that if the sprinkler system ever needs repairs, she can call them — and they’ll return to help at no charge.
For Beauty’s Community Garden, it’s one more reason to keep growing.
The garden is not only known for the work it has done in it’s community, but also the surrounding area. On Saturday October 3rd, they will be deeply involved in the Food Is Medicine: A Community Celebration of Health, Culture & Sustainability event.
