HOUSTON – Houston police say a 17-year-old suspect has been taken into custody in connection to the shooting that killed Westbury High School student LePaul Warren Friday.
HPD investigators have detained a person of interest in the fatal shooting at 11911 Chimney Rock Road.

Houston Police Chief J. Noe Diaz says the suspect was taken into custody in the 11300 block of Hillcroft Avenue this evening. Diaz says the suspect was walking in the area when he was detained.
The arrest comes after drones were used to conduct surveillance at a nearby apartment the suspect is believed to live at. Police are in the process of executing a search unit at the location.
Diaz says the suspect is not enrolled at any Houston ISD school. A weapon was also recovered, but it is unclear if it is the same gun that was used in the shooting. The ATF is working to confirm whether it is the same weapon used.
Right now, police don’t know what the motive was for the killing. They also aren’t sure how the suspect and victim know each other, but believe there is some connection between the two, possibly over social media.
Diaz says there was some sort of discussion between the two before the shooting happened Friday morning.
It is also unclear whether the suspect has a previous criminal record.
Diaz says witnesses were extremely helpful in taking the suspect into custody. Security cameras, phone data, and a photo array presented before witnesses, were some of the things used to help make the arrest.
Diaz says there were probably close to 100 people working on the case Friday.
