Prairie View A&M University has received a $50 million donation, the largest in the universityโs history, from writer and philanthropist MacKenzie Scott. The historically Black university can use the money for whatever it likes. School leaders have chosen to allocate $10 million to juniors and seniors who had dealt with financial challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Last month, Prairie View received a $10 million donation from an anonymous donor to help students impacted by the pandemic. Scott, who is the former wife of Amazon CEO and billionaire Jeff Bezos, also donated $50 million to Morgan State University, a historically Black college in Maryland.

Prairie View to paint Black Lives Matter on main thoroughfare
HOUSTON The city of Prairie View will paint a street mural that reads Black Lives Matter on the main thoroughfare on Thursday. Mayor David Allen partnered with Prairie View A&M Universitys School of Architecture to design the mural and chose the street where Sandra Bland was arrested as the location for the permanent mural. Students and alumni, leaving and coming into (the PVAMU) campus can read it and know that, in Prairie View, were doing our part to spread the message, Allen said. The painting will be 12-feet wide and 19-feet tall, with three-feet of spacing in between. Students from the universitys eight colleges and school will pitch in to do the painting.
Grand jury indicts Prairie View officer involved in tasing, arrest of city councilman
PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas โ A Waller County grand jury decided Friday to indict Prairie View police Officer Michael Kelly for official oppression for the arrest of City Council member Jonathan Miller, according to Waller County Assistant Criminal District Attorney Noah Johnson. According to Prairie View police, officers were questioning four men about recent disturbances or suspicious activity in the area when Miller interrupted the investigation. One of the witnesses recorded the incident with his cellphone. Police said Miller resisted arrest and that is when they deployed a Taser. The officers in October's incident included a female officer who was also involved in the Sandra Bland arrest, the chief said.
