Many Republican candidates are seeking to capitalize on Americansโ€™ precarious financial situations heading into next weekโ€™s midterm elections to vilify a key component of President Joe Bidenโ€™s climate agenda: electric vehicles.

He can send the White House into a tailspin with a single five-minute interview or three-sentence statement. With a 50-50 split in the Senate leaving little room for error on tough votes, other moderate Democrats like Sens. He received a call from the White House shortly after his complaint to try to smooth things over. AdThe White House shares those political concerns. Their significance to the final vote on the COVID-19 bill means some moderates are already getting extra attention from the White House.

FILE - In this Feb. 5, 2021, file photo President Joe Biden speaks about the economy in the State Dinning Room of the White House in Washington. One featured a public show of trying to reach across the political aisle, with bipartisan rhetoric and a White House invitation for Republican senators. But it's more likely that the White House will need to choose between the two extremes. โ€œPresident Bidenโ€™s got some pretty big tests in front of him when it comes to domestic policy. AdThe process of securing the $787 billion package โ€” aid broadly credited for helping boost an economy in free fall โ€” left a bad taste for the Obama-Biden White House.

Biden largely mum on Trump's effort to reverse election

Read full article: Biden largely mum on Trump's effort to reverse election

While some Democrats say Trump's actions merit new impeachment proceedings, Biden has been more circumspect. Bidenโ€™s aides believe Americans outside Washington want to hear more about how the Biden presidency will help them and less about the partisan squabbling that has characterized the past four years of Trumpโ€™s presidency. There was no widespread fraud in the election, which a range of election officials across the country, as well as Trumpโ€™s former attorney general, William Barr, has confirmed. Indeed, by avoiding engaging with Trump, Biden is also hoping to maintain the opportunity for bipartisanship in the new Congress, which he's repeatedly emphasized will be key to his hopes of getting anything done. Jim Manley, a former longtime Senate Democratic leadership aide, said the party's failure to take on Trump's recent moves could set the tone for Bidenโ€™s presidency and beyond.

In Georgia, Biden's presidency meets early defining moment

For President-elect Joe Biden, his most defining congressional election is coming before he takes office. Both Georgia Democrats Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock must win Tuesday to split the Senate 50-50. To be sure, even a closely divided Democratic Senate wouldnโ€™t give Biden everything he wants. While progressives say they've lowered their expectations of what's possible โ€” even under a Democratic Senate โ€” they still intend to push Biden. Besides misrepresenting Bidenโ€™s and most Democratic senatorsโ€™ policy preferences, that characterization ignores the reality of the Senateโ€™s roster.

Peters was the only non-incumbent Democrat to win a Senate election in 2014, when he prevailed easily despite the GOPโ€™s successes nationally and in Michigan. All largely back both Biden and Peters, but a bigger percentage remain undecided in the Senate race, according to some polls. He said he ranks as one of the most bipartisan Senate Democrats and, despite being a freshman in the minority, has written and passed more of his bills than any other senator. Before winning promotion to the Senate, Peters was a congressman, lottery commissioner and state senator and served in the Navy Reserve. Stu Sandler, a consultant for James' campaign, said support for Peters is โ€œsoft all around.
