GALVESTON, Texas – The Bayport Cruise Terminal will have no scheduled cruises after April 2016.

The announcement was made after Norwegian Cruise Lines said it would not plan future services from the port.  Princess Cruises had already decided to end services from the port.

The terminal was first completed in 2008 and sat empty for years until Norwegian and Princess began sailing from the location.

The Caribbean Princess ship was the first to sail from the port after it secured its first cruise line agreements.

The cruise lines, which offered western Caribbean voyages, were expected to deliver more than 400,000 passengers to Houston over the following four years, and was expected to have an economic impact of $50 million each year.

"We are pleased to have helped deliver an economic boon to the communities immediately adjacent to the cruise terminal.  There is an ebb and flow to the business cycles. The cruise business is cyclical. We are continually pursuing business for the port and will continue to explore business for the terminal," Port of Houston officials released in a statement on Wednesday.
