KATY, Texas – Classes will be canceled Friday for Stephens Elementary in Katy ISD due to a power outage Thursday evening.
A transformer malfunctioned after a fire that ignited on the main power line to the school, knocking out the building's power.

Due to extended needs elsewhere in the service area, CenterPoint Energy has not been able to respond and give a full assessment of the damage or estimated repair time as of midnight Friday.
According to the Katy ISD communications department, CenterPoint and Katy ISD will do everything they can to remedy the situation as quickly as possible.
"We will update parents, guardians and staff on the status of the power at Stephens Elementary as soon as we learn more. We will also follow up with additional information on how, or if, this instructional day will need to be made up in the future," said the Katy ISD communications department.
