PASADENA, Texas – A 6-year-old boy lost his arm Tuesday morning in an accident involving three cars in Pasadena.
According to police, the 6-year-old was riding in the front seat of a white Mustang with his mother and 12-year-old cousin.
The first collision happened along Spencer Highway, just before Strawberry Road. Police say the white Mustang hit a maroon vehicle outside a McDonald's.
Down the street and a few seconds later, police say the Mustang swerved into oncoming traffic and hit a pickup truck.
A mother and her 9-year-old daughter inside the maroon vehicle were transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A man driving the pickup was also transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The mother driving the Mustang suffered a couple of broken bones and she has a fractured skull. Her 12-year-old nephew did not suffer any major injuries, but emergency crews had to amputate the arm of the 6-year-old.
"They are going to see if they can reattach his arm," said Vance Mitchell of the Pasadena Police Department. "We'll see if he has a chance."
Mitchell said the boy was talking and alert following the accident.
Witnesses say they saw the mother in the Mustang slumped over the wheel of her car. Investigators are trying to determine if she suffered a medical condition.
