Man charged in stabbing death during argument at Upper Kirby apartments

HOUSTON – Houston police say 25-year-old Shannon Gallagher was stabbed to death in the hallway of the Gables West Avenue Apartments in Upper Kirby early Sunday morning.

A suspect, 26-year-old Huntley Grichor, was arrested at the scene scene.

Friends of the victim say everything started at Gaslamp Bar in Midtown around 11 p.m. Saturday.

The two groups got into some type of argument but things seemed to end there.

About an hour later, both groups coincidentally spotted each other on the fourth floor of the same apartment building. Things got chaotic, according to police.

We are told the victim did not live at West Avenue but was there with friends after a night out.

The victim's girlfriend and the alleged suspect's girlfriend know each other.

Witnesses released this statement:

"Stephanie attacked Paige by grabbing her hair. Shannon (the victim) separated the two girls. When this was happening Huntley ran into his apartment and grabbed a big steak knife. Shannon saw him with the knife and raised his hands to the side because he did not want to fight him with a knife. He asked him: 'Are you really going to stab me with a knife?' At this time, Huntley lunged at him stabbing him directly in the heart."

The suspect has bonded out of jail and didn't say anything to our cameras Monday morning when he and his attorney left the courthouse.
