In 2010, President Barack Obama signed what is now known as Rosa's Law, which removed the terms mental retardation and mentally retarded from federal health, education and labor policy.

It was replaced with intellectual disability.

According MHMRA's executive director, the new name change is expected to be completed sometime this year.
