Authorities said Ellen Rae Beason was reported to the Harris County Sheriff's Office as a missing person in July 1984. She was reported to be last seen at the Texas Moon Club in League City by a friend who noticed her car still parked there the following day.
In 1985, detectives received information on the whereabouts of Beason's body. Deputies said she then was recovered in an area just off the old causeway road in Galveston County.
In Nov. 2011, authorities said detectives opened this cold case and developed new evidence which led to Beason's remains being removed from her grave site and sent to the University of North Texas Health Science Center to be examined by a forensic pathologist.
Dr. Gil-King determined that Beason skull received blunt force trauma, which he identifies as a homicide, said deputies. Additional DNA examination was done to confirm that it was Beason's remains.
Hedrick remains in custody in lieu of $150,000 bond.
