Man left scared after car window shot on Southwest Freeway

HOUSTON – He was headed home from work.

It was Friday afternoon, and traffic was heavy.

But Todd Adler didn't know his weekend was about to start off with a bang.

"I hear this loud, this loud like pop," Adler said.

Adler said he was headed down Highway 59 near Beechnut, when turned his head and saw his driver side window was shattered out of nowhere.

He thought it was just a rock, but when he got home, he decided to check again.

"Sure enough, there was a small little fragment of metal in there. But it scared me half to death when it happened," Adler said.

A small fragment from some sort of bullet.

"It actually hit about right here, and imagine you can see I was sitting right there, so it would've come through and probably hit me in the arm somewhere," Adler said.

Whether he was the intended target or it was just a freak accident, Adler may never know.

"You're just trying to make it home and somebody is just shooting windows out in vehicles," Adler said.

But he did file a report with Houston police.

What Adler does know is that thin piece of glass may have been his only protection.

"I would've never in my wildest dreams imagine that my window would get shot out while I was driving," Adler said.

Adler's window is fixed now, but that bizarre bullet is setting him back almost $300.

If you have any information about what happened, you're asked to call police.
