How to help ‘Kids’ Meals’ replace lost food due to power outages
HOUSTON – The nonprofit “Kids’ Meals” has been fighting hunger in Houston since 2016 providing free, healthy meals to preschool-aged children who live in extreme poverty. Beth Harp, executive director with Kids’ Meals, Inc., explained how the community can help them restock to aid those in dire need. Kids' Meals, Inc. Local nonprofit hosts day of pampering for girls with special needs
HOUSTON – A former pro-basketball player is using his nonprofit to bring a sense of normalcy amidst the pandemic. Remi Yusuf, a native of Houston, founded the Be A 9th Wonder Foundation, which offers sports camps to children with special needs. However, on Sunday night, the group swayed away from sports, by focusing on a day of pampering. “It just warms my heart to know this organization is here to do this for our children with special needs. The event will be a basketball clinic for children with special needs at the Upside SportsPlex in Alvin, Texas.
Beyoncé foundation to donate $500K to families facing eviction amid COVID-19

Beyoncé has also directed resources to Houston, including providing more than 500 COVID-19 tests, partnering with a local church for a drive-thru food distribution site and supplying basic necessities to those in need through local organizations.
Local nonprofit holds ‘Holly Jolly Toy Store’ to empower struggling parents
HOUSTON – A local nonprofit hoped to empower local parents who may be struggling this holiday season. The Forge for Families hosted the Holly Jolly Toy Store to offer a chance for parents to shop for new discounted gifts for their families with the focus of giving parents dignity, honor and respect. Their gym was filled with hundreds of new toys and gift cards from churches and people all over the country. “[The gifts] have all been significantly discounted so what might normally cost them $100 at the store would only cost them $25 tonight,” Thomas said. “I already know when my son sees PJ Masks, he’s going to be super excited,” Warren said with a smile.
Thieves steal $40,000 worth of machinery from Hope Farm nonprofit
HOUSTON – A local nonprofit is asking the public for help after thieves broke into their farm. Hope Farms said the thieves took a tractor, trailer and 4×4, which they estimate at about $40,000. Hope Farms is located in Houston’s Sunny Side neighborhood and dedicates itself to providing nutritious food to the community. According to Cavnar, Hope Farms, like many nonprofits and local businesses, is struggling because of the pandemic. Anyone with information on the stolen equipment or persons responsible is asked to call the Houston Police Department at 713-884-3131.
BakerRipley offers veterans helping hand with rental assistance
Through the Veterans Services Program, Mourland was able to get assistance with everything from rent and utilities to other necessities. Jeffrey Lewings, the Veterans Services Supervisor for BakerRipley, said the program has helped hundreds of veterans this year alone and thousands since it started back in 2013. “There are so many veterans out there that feel that they’re alone, that they’re by themselves. “It’s a phenomenal feeling to be able to assist and help the veterans." BakerRipley hopes that more veterans in need of help will reach out about the program.
