SHENANDOAH, Texas – Memorial Hermann and Conroe ISD are working together to vaccinate nearly 7,000 people in Montgomery County. Their daughter, who lives with them, just had a baby, so Danny and Donna Driscoll wanted the vaccine in a hurry. Memorial Hermann teamed with Conroe ISD to administer about 7,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine at the Woodforest Bank Stadium Friday and Saturday. That’s an honor for us to do that through this vaccine clinic,” said Conroe ISD Superintendent Dr. Curtis Null. Dr. Null said they plan to do the second doses of the vaccine at the same site in three weeks.
Lightning strike caused house fire in Shenandoah
SHENANDOAH A couple in Shenandoah was forced to evacuate their home after a lightning strike sparked a fire in the homes attic. The flames were reported at about 5:45 p.m. Sunday on Etonshire Court near South Emory Beach. Of course with the weather conditions the smoke was really, really low. Visibility just in the area around the house was really bad, said Battalion Chief Mitch Hubbard with the Woodlands Fire Department. No one was injured and the couple said they would stay with family for the night.

Shenandoah residents voiced their thoughts and concerns regarding a proposed park at the north end of Holly Hill Drive during an Oct. 2 town hall meeting. Shenandoah Public Works Director Joseph Peart presented the stages and options available for the park, which 166 of 227 respondents to a survey conducted earlier this year said they were in favor of establishing. The total estimated cost of the park, depending on options, will range from $159,915-$521,409. A majority of respondents to the initial survey said they wished to keep the price range below $100,000. This site is going to need some drainage and grading work to be a usable park, Peart said.

Although hotel tax revenue in The Woodlands is up 1% midway through the year, growth is slower than projected, township officials said. Hotel tax revenue helps to fund tourism and marketing efforts, including local events, according to the state comptrollers office. For the first four months of the year, hotel tax revenue was down, although the 2019 budget estimated $9.69 million on hotel tax revenue this year. We were looking for an increase in hotel tax revenue. That in itself could attract tons of hotel tax for the residents.Entertainment is also a draw for the area.

Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center, located at 9250 Pinecroft Drive, Shenandoah, opened a dedicated neurosciences comprehensive patient care unit July 15. The unit will house its existing 24/7 coverage of complex neurological care in a centralized setting. The unit also houses Montgomery Countys first epilepsy monitoring unit, according to a press release. Construction is underway for a Dave & Busters entertainment venue, according to Sam Moon Group, the company developing Metropark Square on I-45 North in Shenandoah where the facility is located. Dave & Busters is slated for a grand opening in December and will be among the retailers that have signed a minimum 10-year lease, company officials said.

Shenandoah City Council members detailed requests they would like to see in the budget this year during a June 26 meeting. The requests were held prior to a budget workshop that is scheduled for August and noted to be preliminary. Council Member Ted Fletcher put in a request for a Shenandoah fun card, which he said will be used to improve the quality of life in Shenandoah. The card would be used in a way to expand on the idea established with free trash services to city residents. Council Member Ron Raymaker requested a recycling program for the city be added as a recurring operation budget item.
