Graham Media Group, the local media division of Graham Holdings Company (NYSE: GHC), announced today that Phil Lane has been named Vice President and General Manager of KPRC 2, the NBC broadcast affiliate television station in Houston.

KPRC 2 honored to receive 30 Lone Star EMMY nominations this year

HOUSTON – The KPRC 2 team received a whopping 30 Lone Star EMMY nominations Friday, including in the prestigious “Overall Excellence," “News Excellence" and “Community Service,” categories. Our station has received the most nominations of all the TV stations in Houston and has the second-most nominations in the state. The Lone Star Chapter is part of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and describes itself as “the standard-bearers for excellence in the television broadcasting industry and the gatekeepers of the prestigious regional EMMY Awards in Texas.” It serves 19 television markets in Texas and includes members from TV-related fields including news and non-news broadcasting, according to its website. A virtual award ceremony is set for November.

Lisa Hernandez is joining the KPRC 2 News Today team. She will co-anchor with Owen Conflenti and join Britta Merwin, Amy Davis, Haley Hernandez (no relation) and Anavid Reyes in getting Houstonians ready for the day. “I always believed Lisa was meant to be on KPRC 2 and we are thrilled that she was excited to join our team,” said KPRC 2 Vice President/General Manager Jerry Martin. Hernandez is a familiar face in Houston; she served as a KHOU anchor for eight years. Hernandez moved to Houston in 2011.

HOUSTON – The KPRC family came together on Friday to celebrate longtime anchor Bill Balleza who is retiring after 49 years of service. HOUSTON - Jennifer Reyna is leaving KPRC 2. In a statement, KPRC 2 General Manager Jerry Martin wrote, After a long, good faith negotiation between both parties, we could not come to a new agreement with Jennifer. Jennifer has been a part of the KPRC family for more than 15 years. We thank her for all her hard work as an anchor and traffic reporter as well as her dedication to community events. She regularly anchors traffic weekday mornings on KPRC 2 News Today and during the "TODAY Show."
Meet Penny: This is the sweet dog that found her way to KPRC as Imelda moved toward Houston
KPRC 2HOUSTON - KPRC 2's mascot dog Tex found a friendly dog on Tuesday near KPRC's southwest Houston grounds just as Tropical Storm Imelda approached the Houston area. KPRC 2KPRC 2 staff managed to get the dog inside the building, where she remained all day, out of the rain. She has some minor health issues but will be treated by BARC and then she will be re-homed through the Rescued Pets Movement. She also met and got along with our station dog, Tex. HOUSTON - KPRC 2 continued celebrating its 70 years as the first TV station in Houston on Tuesday night with KPRC 2 Night at the Astros.During the the Houston Astros game against the Oakland Athletics, KPRC 2 purchased 264 seats in the upper deck of Minute Maid Park for staff, friends and fans. During the third and fourth innings of the game, those in KPRC 2 seats participated in two card flip stunts. Leading up to the game, KPRC 2 invited fans to get up-close with many of their favorite on-air staff, including KPRC 2 News Today, Houston Life, and the KPRC 2 News at 10 teams. KPRC 2s Astros event also kicks off the stations Million Likes Mania campaign, encouraging viewers to Like the KPRC2 Facebook page to help reach one million likes. Weve had such a great time celebrating 70 years of KPRC 2 firsts, said KPRC 2 Vice President/General Manager Jerry Martin.
KPRC 2 kicks off 4th annual Houston Habitat Home build day
As with any proper build, the 4th annual KPRC Habitat Home kickoff began with a safety brief. Despite some wind and some rain, nail by nail, board by board, walls came together as daylight made its morning appearance. It began at a time when Houston Habitat for Humanity executive director Allison Hay said the need was growing.
