An investigation is underway after possible human remains were found in an area in south Anahuac, according to Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne.

Investigation underway after girl struck by stray bullet at stadium during high school football game, officials say

An investigation is underway after a juvenile was struck in the leg by a possible stray bullet while at the Buccaneer Stadium during a sub-varsity football game between East Chambers and Anahuac high schools, according to the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office.

Chambers County opens coronavirus vaccine pre-registration

ANAHUAC, Texas – Chambers County officials opened pre-registration for coronavirus vaccine appointments Wednesday and the slots were filled within about an hour. To access the online portal, people could click here or call 409-267-2460. Registration is required to receive the shot. Walkups or drive-ups will not be accepted. The county does not have a waitlist, officials said.

Smoke wafting over parts of northeast Houston from wildfire in Anahuac refuge

ANAHUAC, Texas – Smoke wafts over parts of northeast Houston from a large wildfire in the Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge. Officials expect the fire to produce a lot of smoke throughout the day as they work to extinguish it. Officials said about 2,200 acres have burned as of WednesdayOfficials said the fire is about 50% contained and entirely within the refuge. Officials are bringing in a fire suppression helicopter in hopes the fire will be under control by Wednesday evening. Cooper said firefighters from other wildlife refuges and wildland specialists are assisting in the wildfire.

NTSB: Extreme reaction of Atlas Air pilot may have caused fatal 2019 crash

WASHINGTON The pilot of an Atlas Air plane that crashed into Trinity Bay last year had problems during his training which may have contributed to his extreme reaction when a type of automatic control was inadvertently activated before the fatal decent, according to federal investigators. Sean Archuleta, who was riding in the jump seat, were killed in the Feb. 23, 2019, crash near Anahuac. The reaction to the slightly abnormal situation was the problem, NTSB investigator Bill English said. Investigators also said that it appears several red flags were missed by an agent who conducted a screening of Aska for Atlas Air. They also said they believe it was inappropriate for Atlas Air to rely solely on the screening agent to catch those problems.

Woman attacked, killed by several feral hogs outside home in Chambers County, sheriff says

ANAHUAC, Texas – A woman was found dead outside a home after she was attacked by several feral hogs Sunday morning in Chambers County, according to Sheriff Brian Hawthorne. On Monday, during a press conference, Hawthorne confirmed the animals that attacked Rollins were feral pigs. She was just that type of person,” Sandles Jr. said. Rollins is described as a fun-loving woman, who kept a smile on her face and cheer for San Francisco 49ers. Keep God first and we all get through it,” Sandles Jr. said.

When she didn't show up at the normal time, the 84-year-old homeowner went outside and found Rollins in the front yard with multiple injuries, the sheriff's office said.
