According to the sheriff’s office, deputies and troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to a call of two unresponsive people on the side of the road at the location.

When authorities arrived, they found one woman dead at the scene and another in critical condition laying on the side of the road.

“Through the initial investigation, it appears that a vehicle traveling southbound on SH 61, drove off of the roadway, colliding with the females that were out exercising. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene and has not yet been located,” the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office said evidence found at the scene indicate the vehicle was likely a 2019-2024 model Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra. The vehicle will be missing entirety of the passenger side mirror.

“There is a possibility that the suspect vehicle is white or silver; however, any pickup matching the description should be reported,” the sheriff’s office said.

If you have information about the ongoing investigation, authorities ask that you contact Trooper Banda with Texas DPS at (409)-655-0914 or Chambers County Crime Stoppers at (844)-860–8477.
