Texas AG Ken Paxtonโ€™s top aides want him investigated for bribery and other alleged crimes, report says

(TEXAS TRIBUNE) โ€“ Senior officials in the Texas Attorney Generalโ€™s Office have asked federal law enforcement to โ€œinvestigate allegations of improper influence, abuse of office, bribery and other potential crimesโ€ by their boss, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, according to a new report from the Austin-American Statesman and KVUE-TV. The brief letter, dated Oct. 1, says the officials notified law enforcement of a potential crime on Sept. 30, but does not provide detailed accusations. The officials also say they notified Paxton himself of the accusation via text message on Oct. 1. A spokeswoman for the attorney generalโ€™s office said in a statement that "the complaint filed against Attorney General Paxton was done to impede an ongoing investigation into criminal wrongdoing by public officials including employees of this office. Making false claims is a very serious matter and we plan to investigate this to the fullest extent of the law.โ€She declined to comment further, citing an open investigation.

The society is sharing a 60% discount on all โ€œseniorโ€ animals from the ages 5 years old and up. The Humane Society noted that no appointment is needed to come to the Adoption Center at 14700 Almeda Road, and visit with the adoptable pets. โ€œPeople always want puppies, but seniors make wonderful pets and since many were previously owned many of them are already trained and used to family life so the transition to a new home is easier,โ€ Gary Poon, executive director of the Houston Humane Society, is quoted as saying in a news release about the event. At capacity after shootings, Chicago hospital stops admissions

Scott Olson/Getty Images(CNN) - Chicago's Mount Sinai Hospital temporarily stopped accepting patients Sunday morning because they were at capacity following a series of shootings, a hospital official said. The hospital went "on bypass" in the early morning, said Roberta Rakove, Senior VP for External Affairs. Mount Sinai Hospital is one of five trauma centers in Chicago, according to Rakove. At its height early Sunday morning, Mount Sinai had 12 trauma patients, Rakove said. Rakove could not say when Mount Sinai Hospital went "on bypass," but said it came "off bypass" at approximately 6:30 am.
