The national advocacy group projects 12,000 arts and cultural nonprofits are at risk of being wiped out forever.

PASADENA, Texas – Vehicles waited in line for hours Monday in Pasadena as The Salvation Army handed out gift cards to families in need. Instead of serving up food boxes, The Salvation Army gave out money. “We know that many people have been hit by COVID and they need the help right now,” said Luis Villaneuva, with The Salvation Army. “Right now, I’m going to buy food, more than anything else is food,” Lopez said. HOUSTON When you think of the Salvation Army, you probably dont think high fashion or brand names. The Salvation Army Womens Auxillary 16th Annual Chic Boutique opens Friday, Sept. 11 with loads of designer fashion you can get for next to nothing. A pop-up boutique open for just four days that raises hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Salvation Army of Greater Houston. Most of the items have been curated from donations to the Salvation Army. The Chic Boutique raises about $900,000 every year for the Salvation Army.

The first Friday in June, June 5 this year, is National Donut Day. Started by the Salvation Army in Chicago in 1938, the day honors the group's "donut lassies," who served treats and provided assistance to soldiers on the front lines during World War I. (And this isn't to be confused with National Doughnut Day, which is in November and celebrates the actual food.)
