Anthony Rendon gives back, cracks jokes for a good cause
Houston native Anthony Rendon was honored at this year’s SpringSpirit Breakfast for Champions, and the Lamar and Rice alum made the event worthwhile with a great message and some fun. Berkman and his wife are heavily involved in SpringSpirit, and the Astros legend interviewed Rendon on stage. “My wife and I are very passionate about trying to give back; we’ve started our own non-profit,” said Rendon. There were laughs, of course; after all, Rendon’s spectacular performance in October 2019 helped the Nationals win a World Series against the Astros. “It’s the first time I’ve ever seen somebody’s World Series highlights where nobody in the room clapped,” said Reid Ryan.

Rice falls to Lamar 5-4
HOUSTON – The Rice baseball team rallied for four runs over a span of four-straight innings, but Lamar regained the lead in the seventh and hung on for a 5-4 win over the Owls Wednesday night at Reckling Park in Houston. A Lamar error on the play, however, allowed Fuda an extra 90 feet to home plate and make it 4-3. Lamar held-off Rice's final at bats in the ninth for the 5-4 final. "Tonight's game was determined by our mental mistakes," said Rice head coach Wayne Graham. By design, a total of six Rice pitchers saw work in the game in advance of the team's upcoming Conference USA league opener.
