Free movie tickets for high school seniors
HOUSTON With so many closures during the pandemic, freebies have been scarce, but this is a great deal for high school seniors and 2020 graduates. At 5 Showbiz Cinema locations in greater HoustonShowbiz Cinemas are offering free movie tickets to seniors every Monday through Thursday during the month of June. High school graduate loses parents in a car wreck minutes after leaving ceremony
Minutes after receiving his diploma Dalton Barnett, 18, lost both his parents in a car wreck after leaving his high school graduation ceremony. Fox 10 reports his parents were killed in a collision with a pickup truck in Flemingsburg, Kentucky, according to Kentucky State Police. According to the report, the driver, Nancy Barnett, 53, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband, Lyndon Barnett, 56, died at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington. According to Fox 10, the mother wore a shirt to the graduation that read, “Senior Mom: Some people wait their entire lives to meet their inspiration.

Klein ISD provides 600 graduates with drive-thru senior photoshoot
More than 600 graduating seniors were gifted a professional portrait from Klein ISD at a drive-thru photoshoot over the weekend. On Saturday and Sunday, students pulled up to DeMontrond Collision where photographers and photoshoot areas were set up for them to take senior portraits. “I am so grateful for this generous donation from DeMontrond Collision for our graduating seniors,” Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown said. “Their commitment to celebrating the Class of 2020’s accomplishments in an incredible opportunity for our students and families to make new memories.”Officials for Klein ISD described the two-day event as a safe way to honor its graduates and their accomplishments. Students were required to sign up in advance for their photoshoot time slot.
Mail carrier delivers his own celebration to the 2020 graduates on his route
High school graduates on Joshua Crowell's mail route in New Hampshire are finding special letters in their mailboxes. His effort is among the many ways people are trying to make high school graduation special during the coronavirus pandemic. On Saturday, for example, celebrities and even former presidents came together to honor them with CNN's "Class of 2020: In This Together" and LeBron James' "Graduate Together: America Honors the High School Class of 2020." Crowell has delivered 25 of the graduation cards so far, and said he is just getting started. US Postal Service worker Joshua Crowell has a selection of signed cards for this year's graduating class.
Florida student’s photos go viral after wakesurfing in cap and gown
CRAWFORDVILLE, Fla. – One Florida student took to the river in his cap and gown to celebrate his graduation, KPRC 2′s sister station in Jacksonville, Fla., WJXT reported. Lyric Oaks, a senior at Wakulla High School in Sopchoppy, Florida, grabbed his wakeboard and shredded to his success in the Ochlockonee River. Elizabeth Birdwell, owner of Elizabeth Birdwell Photography, said it was a blast to shoot. "He loves to wakesurf.... but while in a cap and gown? Class of 2020 entering worst job market since Great Depression
The Class of 2020 started its senior year in a boom time, with the national unemployment rate at a near-record low of 3.7%. But in the bust driven by the coronavirus, 4 million new graduates are now entering the worst jobs market since the Great Depression. The 23-year-old University of Tennessee graduate thought he had his dream job as a sports reporter lined up, and a backup plan too. A Texas high school’s band directors went to each of their graduating seniors’ homes to play their fight song one last time
When graduating seniors and band students at a Texas high school found out their senior concert was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, they were heartbroken. For three days straight beginning Friday, the trio traveled 168 miles from home to home to visit their 85 senior band students. For 15 minutes each, they played the school's fight song while their students watched in delight from their doorsteps. In between music, laughter and a lot of tears, Plano band seniors finally got the proper goodbye they deserved. "To have my band directors play for me was actually a surreal moment," David Park, a graduating senior and band member, told CNN.
Galveston Ball High school seniors honored with parade while decked out in cap and gowns
GALVESTON, Texas – The 2020 Senior class at Galveston Ball High School was honored Wednesday with a parade along the Seawall. Students and their parents lined the Galveston Seawall, which was decked out in their purple and gold as a parade of vehicles filled with high school and district officials honking and waving. We feel very special,” said senior Xavier Esquivel. It wasn’t quite what students had pictured when the school year started but it will be a memory they said they will never forget. School officials said they plan to hold a graduation ceremony on June 11.
Local high school seniors missing prom, but staying positive

The high school senior tradition of college decision day is going to Instagram
High school senior decision day. Typically there's a day dedicated to revealing plans for what to do after high school. Even though most schools are closed, students are finding other ways to continue the tradition: They've taken decision day to Instagram. "Since school ended so abruptly, we couldn't really cherish our last days of high school and this Instagram page allows us to support and celebrate one another." Instead of celebrating at school, Owens said her family plans to wear their college shirts around the house to show their support.
