HOUSTON โ Houston-area artists can show off their creativity by painting mini murals in several Texas cities. UP Art Studio, who curated the award-winning program, put out a call for artists to paint small-scale murals on traffic signal cabinets and other utility cabinets in diverse Texas neighborhoods. Upcoming project commissions include City of Houston Districts C and H, East Aldine, League City, La Porte, and Near Northwest. HOUSTON โ Midtown Houston and UP Art Studio commissioned local artists to create mini murals that focused on the global pandemic and social justice issues. They have more than 300 mini murals currently on display. It also includes representation of children from different backgrounds to capture what a truly inclusive community might look like. โI thought it was important that the artists selected use this opportunity to create work that was relevant and important to them,โ said Cynthia Alvarado, Operations Manager at the Midtown Management District.

HOUSTON โ People who live, work and play in Midtown Houston are wondering when construction on a beloved neighborhood park will finally be complete. The 30,000 square foot Bagby Park along Gray Street was partially closed for renovations in June 2019. According to a June 2019 blog post on the Midtown Redevelopment Authority (MRA) website, the upgrades would be complete in Fall 2019. In a recent post to the neighborhood social media app, Nextdoor, one woman opened a thread on the topic with, โwe want Bagby Park REOPENED.โ Other neighbors chiming in on the lack of information about why the renovations were delayed. For public safety purposes, public access is restricted from the areas of the park which are undergoing active construction.

HOUSTON โ Boxer and business icon George Foreman has been selected as the Grand Marshall for the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. parade in downtown Houston, according to the city of Houston. The parade, dubbed the โoriginal" parade, is hosted by the City of Houston and the Black Heritage Society. The โOriginalโ MLK Day Parade in Houston was the very first MLK parade held in the nation, after being sanctioned by the King family in 1978. He is also a globally-recognized entrepreneur, having products ranging from shoes to the George Foreman Real Time Pain Relief Formula.
