HEADLAND, Ala. โ Suspected tornadoes killed at least two people as severe weather blasted the Deep South, and a house fire believed started by lightning claimed a third person, officials said Monday. โHe was in a mobile home, and the mobile home was destroyed by a tornado. The National Weather Service said it had received reports of large hail and broken power poles in the area, and emergency management officials said 20 homes were damaged. Teams from the National Weather Service will assess tracks to determine where tornadoes struck. The storms hit a week after a two-day outbreak of more than 100 tornadoes that began Easter Sunday killed at least 36 people across the region.

As of Wednesday afternoon, 24 people died in the state and at least 18 of them died in Putnam County. KPRC 2โฒs Rose-Ann Aragon traveled to Cookeville in Putnam County, about 85 miles east of Nashville where residents were hard at work with clean up and recovery efforts. โIโm very blessed because people right down the street were not as fortunate as us,โ said homeowner Tamara Williams. Most of the tornado and storm damage was reported in parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Texas starting early Monday, sheriffs officials told local media. Initial reports suggest first tornado was reported in Louisiana around 10:35 (a.m.) CST and first tornado fatality was somewhere around 11:18 a.m. CST, said NWS meteorologist Jared Guyer. More rain and wind is expected overnight and into Tuesday as the storms push off into southeastern Georgia, Floridas panhandle and the Carolina coasts in the morning hours.
