Double shooting leaves 2 men injured in west Houston, police say

Two men were reportedly left injured after an apparent double shooting in west Houston Saturday.

Prosecutor: Bottle of liquor found in pocket of man charged in wreck that killed Houston healthcare worker

HOUSTON โ€“ The man accused of causing a fatal wreck on the Katy Freeway service road over the weekend faced a judge for the first time on Monday. Police said Amy Shypailo, 29, was killed Sunday when Freeman ran a red light and broadsided her car at the intersection of the Katy Freeway service road and Gessner. Teare said Shypailo was on her way to Memorial-Hermann Hospital in Memorial City, where she worked as a speech pathologist. Teare said Freeman told officers he had a fight with his girlfriend and was just driving around. She was an undergraduate Texas Longhorn before completing her graduate degree in Speech Pathology at the University of Houston.

Memorial Villages police officer shoots suspect in west Houston

HOUSTON A Memorial Villages police officer shot a suspect on the 900 block of Gessner Road, according to the Houston Police Department. The incident occurred Wednesday night near a Memorial Hermann Memorial City parking garage. According to HPD, the shooting occurred when the suspect attempted to grab the officers weapon. The suspect was taken to the nearby Memorial Hermann Memorial City Hospital in an unknown condition. Memorial Villages Police Department and HPD are investigating.

Kirby Ice House opens new location near Memorial City amid coronavirus pandemic

HOUSTON Kirby Ice House officially opened a new location near Memorial City Thursday night, but with some changes in light of the coronavirus pandemic still ravaging the Houston area. Customers at the new Gessner Road location had to get their temperatures checked when they arrived. Were not doing any kind of grand opening parties or anything like that. With the growing number of coronavirus cases in Texas, KPRC 2 asked Morgan about opening during a pandemic. Were doing all we can but theres only so much I feel like you can do with this going around, said Morgan.
