Magnolia ISD will lift mask mandate on April 1
HOUSTON – Three Houston area school boards – in Friendswood, Magnolia and Tarkington – planned to vote Monday night on whether or not to remove their mask mandates. New state guidelines require all students, teachers, staff and visitors to wear masks on school property, unless school boards vote otherwise. In Magnolia, the board of trustees voted to remove the mask mandate, effective April 1. AdIn Tarkington ISD, a decision has not been made as of Monday evening. We will update this story as the school boards cast their votes.
Friendswood ISD may eliminate most virtual lessons
At a recent school board meeting, Friendswood ISD referenced the grade issues. At the agenda from Nov. 9, Friendswood ISD highlighted failure rates, showing that in the first nine weeks of the school year, 29% of virtual Friendswood ISD high school students were failing one or more classes, in contrast, 8.5% of in-person high school learners are failing one or more classes. The agenda shows the proposed changes for virtual learning options. It would be available for students who have tested positive or must be quarantined or if students meet certain criteria. As far as cases go, the district shows there are 10 active cases out of 6,000 students and 664 employees.

Humble ISD - Humble ISD schools and buildings are OPEN on Wednesday, Sept. 23, following Tropical Storm Beta. Klein Online students will continue to learn online and Klein On-Campus students will return to their campus. San Jacinto College - San Jacinto College will extend online learning and remote work for Wednesday, Sept. 23. Tomball ISD - Tomball ISD schools and facilities are open Wednesday, Sept. 23 and the district will operate on a normal schedule. Classes continue online.

Friendswood ISD graduate, guest test positive for COVID-19 after graduation ceremony, officials say
FRIENDSWOOD, Texas – Friendswood Independent School District officials said they were notified Wednesday evening that a graduate and a guest who attended the June 5 graduation ceremony for Friendswood High School tested positive for COVID-19. The student and the guest were sitting in the yellow section of the stadium, district officials said in a message sent to parents and staff. District officials said both the student and the guest were not showing symptoms at the time of the graduation ceremony, and all individuals who came in contact with them have been notified. Friendswood ISD officials said the incubation period for those who may have been exposed ends on June 19. Students, staff and guests who were in attendance are strongly advised to follow guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and monitor their health, district officials said.
