During Houstonโ€™s historic winter storm last month, the Katy home that James lived in with his daughter and son-in-law lost power and later Jones eventually died. โ€œCenterPoint Energy did not plan properly for this power outage, and CenterPoint did not care,โ€ said Benny Agosto Jr., attorney for Jonesโ€™ family. Now, Pamela Bunkley, Jonesโ€™ daughter, and her husband are suing CenterPoint Energy for wrongful death. AdDuring that time, there was no electricity to power Jamesโ€™ respirator and he became weaker and weaker from the lack of oxygen. Now, Jamesโ€™ daughter Pamela is suing CenterPoint Energy for more than a million dollars, claiming the company caused her fatherโ€™s death.

โ€œI donโ€™t know if anything compares to loss of life in this magnitude,โ€ said Houston attorney Chris Leavitt of the Buzbee Law Firm. It was a series of really poor decisions that put money over peopleโ€™s safety.โ€Leavitt said as of Monday, his firm has filed more than 30 wrongful death lawsuits against The Electric Reliability Council of Texas and power companies across Texas that center on decisions made leading up to last monthโ€™s winter storm. She lost power during the storm and then her pipes burst. She went to stay with her daughter and then her daughter lost power. AdWhile as a matter of company policy CenterPoint Energy does not comment on pending litigation, we mourn for all the lives that were lost as a result of the severe winter weather event.

Read full article: Trust Index: Is gas line protection pitched from Centerpoint necessary?

HOUSTON โ€“ Many of you are leery of letters sent to thousands of homes offering you gas line coverage in case your gas line should need repairs. Youโ€™ve asked KPRC 2 to put this program through our Trust Index to find out what itโ€™s all about. Adโ€œWeโ€™ve seen, on average, gas line repairs average around $1500 a repair, which is significant,โ€ said Centerpointโ€™s Director of Home Services Rick Plummer. If you donโ€™t have at least $1500 saved for emergency repairs, it wouldnโ€™t hurt to sign up for the gas line protection offered by HomeServe and endorsed by Centerpoint. The older your home is, the more likely you might be to have issues with your water or gas lines.
