TOMBALL, Texas – Police in Tomball said crooks stole more than a dozen temporary traffic signs at a newly built intersection on Brown-Hufsman and Quinn street earlier this month.

The signs were taken overnight on August 8. Officer Rickey Doerre said three minor and one major accident has been reported as a direct result of the missing signs.

Investigators said the thieves stole four stop signs valued at approximately $88.52.
12 traffic cones valued at approximately $12.50, a "Stop Ahead" sign valued at approximately $10.63, and two traffic barricades valued at approximately $75.

"When someone has got accustomed to stopping or driving through an intersection and then that sign or that designated point is gone then you could actually have a major accident, ultimately cost someone's life possibly," Doerre said.

Police said they have yet to catch those responsible.

They have replaced the temporary signs with permanent ones.
