NOAA forecast for the 2026 Hurricane season is in! NOAA is predicting the season will be below normal. A similar prediction to Colorado State University’s forecast that went live in April.
The dip in hurricane activity is tied to an El Niño pattern that will develop this summer. When El Niño is in place, it creates more wind shear in the parts of the Atlantic Basin. The wind shear limits storm development, as it acts like scissors, shredding the hurricane’s circulation apart.
However, it will be a tug-of-war, as NOAA predicts warmer waters in the Atlantic that could aid storm development. The bottom line is to stay prepared.
Although hurricane activity is trending lower this season, it only takes one storm to cause devastation. As a reminder, hurricane season runs from June 1st to November 30th. We want to help you prepare, so be sure to let us know if you have any questions related to hurricane season.
