PEARLAND, Texas – Pearland police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle rollover crash that happened early Thursday on a toll ramp off State Highway 288 near Hughes Ranch Road.
According to the Pearland Police Department, officers responded around 1:08 a.m. to a report of a rollover crash with possible entrapment in the 15500 block of the State Highway 288 Toll Ramp South.
When officers arrived, they found a vehicle on fire with four occupants inside, police said. Three occupants appeared unresponsive, and officers tried to extinguish the fire and remove the occupants until Pearland Fire Department crews arrived.
PFD personnel extricated three occupants, who were transported to area hospitals for medical treatment, police said. One occupant was pronounced dead at the scene.
The PPD’s Crime Scene Investigations Unit, Drone Team, and Crash Reconstruction Team are investigating.
Because of the severity of the crash and damage to a guardrail, all southbound traffic on SH 288 Toll Road has been diverted, according to police.
The toll road is temporarily inaccessible from the Hughes Ranch and Discovery Bay entrance ramps. TxDOT has been notified, and authorities said they are working to ensure the roadway is safe before reopening.
