Houston – Jordan Lane, Conner Graham, and Donovan Hanson returned to Houston Life as winners.
They make up the trio behind the band Lucid Illusions. On April 13, KPRC 2 hosted the Eat Like a Local Crawfish Fest with a Battle of the Bands contest at Discovery Green.
Over 100 bands applied, and six competed, but Lucid Illusions was the favorite.
The judges were made up of several Houston professionals in entertainment, arts, and music.
- Mark Drew - Recording artist and producer.
- Brandi Smith – Former television anchor, current Multimedia journalist for Rice University – covering the arts and humanities beat.
- Caleb Guevara – Music producer and School of Rock Cypress Music director
- Eugene Smith – Eat Like a Local, Houston Life, and KPRC 2 audio engineer – with a vast background in music.
Lucid Illusions were praised for being “rock stars...period” their “phenomenal transitions” and during their performance, there was “never a boring moment.”
On Houston Life, the band shared that performing for the crowd at Discovery Green was one of their most fun celebrating with the community and competing against other bands, including their friends 307 Departure who also made their way to Studio B last year. Both bands are touring together this summer to locations out of state.
Lane describes the band life as being a hustle. “Hustle. You have to go for it. You have to give it your all.” The guys hope to secure a record deal and the title of the best band in Houston. “let’s push the snowball absolutely as far as we can.” said Hanson.
During the interview, Graham mentioned enjoying yourself is important and being transparent with yourself and the audience.
These guys do know how to enjoy themselves. Their performance of “I Don’t Belong Anymore” on Houston Life, was lively, passionate, and fun.
