Biden plans to replace government fleet with electric vehicles
President Joe Biden plans to replace the government's fleet of cars and trucks with electric vehicles assembled in the U.S., he said Monday when signing a new "Buy American" executive order. However, replacing such a fleet with American-produced EVs will be costly and take time. "Just about every U.S. plant is going to have a hybrid or electric product." It's unclear whether Biden's plan includes plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, which use a combination of EV motors and traditional internal combustion engines. When discussing the plans, he referred to the new fleet being made up of electric vehicles "that are net zero emissions."cnbc.com

Auto industry wants more government support for electric vehicles

Biden has voiced far more support for EVs as well as infrastructure to support the vehicles than Trump. For example, Biden has promised $400 billion in public investment in clean energy, including battery technologies and electric vehicles. Part of Biden's climate plan includes dedicating government spending to support electric vehicles, with 500,000 new electric vehicle charging outlets by the end of 2030. (The U.S. currently has less than 29,000 public EV chargers, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.)cnbc.com
