Montgomery County sheriff’s investigators arrested Jeremy Michael Buckner, 35, of Porter, in connection with a fatal hit-and-run on U.S. Highway 59.

Splendora Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred early Saturday morning at U.S. Highway 59 and Brice Lane, where a vehicle struck and killed an adult man in an unlit area.

TxDOT says it can’t guarantee that upgrades to one of Houston’s main hurricane evacuation routes will prevent future flooding of U.S. 59.

The Texas Department of Transportation plans to close all southbound and northbound main lanes of U.S. Highway 59 at the Oyster Creek Bridge from Friday at 9 p.m. through Monday at 5 a.m.

ROSENBERG, Texas – Texas EquuSearch ended the search Saturday morning for a 75-year-old man who was last seen in Rosenberg. Officials said the body of Benito Gutierrez was found in the Brazos River a short time after beginning their search. Volunteers with Texas Equusearch conducted a search near the Brazos River and U.S. Highway 59. Gutierrez was last seen alive Thursday. After the discovery of his body, Texas Equusearch posted an update saying “we ask that everyone please keep Benito Gutierrez’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this tragic times in their lives.”

Question: Why was highway 59 changed to 69?Answer: The Texas Transportation Commission started designating parts of U.S. Highway 59 to Interstate 69 in the Houston area in 2012. About six months later, the commission agreed on renaming a 28.4-mile stretch from the West Loop south near Spur 529 in Rosenberg. In March 2015, it approved to close the 11-mile gap from the North Loop south to the West Loop. The Texas Transportation Commission finds that the designation will facilitate the flow of traffic, promote public safety and maintain continuity of the state highway system, said Danny Perez with the Texas Department of Transportation. I-69 is designated concurrent with U.S. 59; therefore, signs for U.S. 59 will remain in place, said Perez.
