PORTER, Texas – Montgomery County sheriff’s investigators have identified and arrested a 35-year-old Porter man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run after a man was found dead along U.S. Highway 59 earlier this week.

Buckner is being held in the Montgomery County Jail and has been charged with collision involving injury or death, a second-degree felony, according to the sheriff’s office.
The investigation began May 7 when the Splendora Police Department responded to the 15000 block of U.S. Highway 59 for a report of a possible deceased man.
Officers and Montgomery County Hospital District personnel determined the man was dead at the scene. Early evidence led investigators to believe the death involved an auto-pedestrian crash, prompting Splendora police to request assistance from the sheriff’s office.
Detectives later identified the victim as Gary Belvin, and investigators said initial findings indicate Belvin was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.
The sheriff’s office said detectives and crime scene investigators worked to gather evidence, identify the suspect and locate Buckner, leading to the arrest.
“I am incredibly proud to work alongside the dedicated men and women of our Major Crimes Unit. This case reflects the relentless commitment our detectives bring to every investigation. We will not rest until justice is served for victims and their families. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Belvin family as they grieve. We hope this arrest brings them a small amount of peace.”
