Pearland’s Braxton Jones may only be a sophomore for the Oilers but the dual-sport athlete excelled on the football field in the fall and this past spring helped the baseball team to a 27-win season, 15-1 in district which led to a District Title, and reached the Area Round of the playoffs.

The Tomball Cougars have capped off their season in dominant fashion, taking down the Pearland Oilers to claim the 6A State Baseball Championship.

In the past 10 years dating back to 2012 (there was no State baseball in 2019), the Greater Houston-area has produced six of the 20 possible State Titles to include Class 6A and Class 5A. Not bad. Barbers Hill (2021, Class 5A), Deer Park (2017, Class 6A), Cypress Ranch (2015, 2012, Class 6A), Tomball (2013, Class 5A) and The Woodlands (2013, Class 6A) all won State Titles. So, who is next?

After the Pearland Oilers jumped out to an early lead, coach Carlesa Dixon steeled her Summer Creek Bulldogs for a comeback.

The District 23-6A title race will be an intriguing one this year, very likely to go down to the wire.

HOUSTON - A day after the Pac-12 Conference pushed its 2020 football season to the spring, now so has one of the country's top recruits. Campbell, a four-star running back prospect in the Class of 2021, announced via his Twitter account Wednesday night that he has decided to forego his senior season and instead prepare to early enroll at USC. Campbell played his junior season for Pearland. Prior to his junior year, Campbell spent his freshman season at Mayde Creek and sophomore year at Katy Taylor. So, if the Pac-12 does indeed play a season in the spring, Campbell could see the gridiron then.
