MISSOURI CITY, Texas – Crash after crash and bumper to bumper traffic are two major problems the Texas Department of Transportation is targeting when it comes to improving Murphy Road in Fort Bend County. The heavily traveled road runs through Stafford and Missouri City. According to TXDOT, the number of crashes on Murphy Road needs to be cut and to do that they’re putting in a raised median that’ll extend from the Southwest Freeway all the way down to Highway 6. The project will place a continuously raised median along the entire stretch of roadway with designated left-turn lanes at certain intersections. TXDOT says this work should cost about $4 million, using both federal and state funding.

The Moderna vaccine is good for 30 days in the refrigerator and six months in the freezer.
Missouri City church provides update on search for missing Texas State student
HOUSTON – Jason Landry, a Texas State student from Missouri City, is still missing Friday, according to his church, Southminster Presbyterian Church. Landry’s vehicle was found totaled and abandoned on a dirt mile about 30 miles from campus. According to the church, investigators said dogs led them to a pond, which they later drained. Kent Landry said as long as there is breath in his lungs then there is still hope to find his son. His prayer is that Jason Landry will be home for Christmas.
14 people, 1 local company connected to decade-long, $26M international fraud scheme, authorities say
HOUSTON – Authorities have named 15 people connected to a massive, decade-long fraud scheme involving tires from China, according to a release. Zheng “Miranda” Zhou, 53, of Missouri City, and Kun “Bruce” Liu, 40, of Sugar Land, were named yesterday in connection with the fraud. The legal documents said the group “conspired to avoid anti-dumping duties associated with off-the-road (OTR) and light vehicle and truck (LVT) tires from China,” according to the release. According to legal records, the documents were also used to understate the value of the tires, making the duty rate for Winland even lower. Whether direct espionage by the Chinese government or trade fraud like in this case, we will continue to investigate and prosecute every case we can.”
Man ambushed, killed inside car in Missouri City: Police
MISSOURI CITY, Texas – A man is dead after being ambushed and shot inside his car in Missouri City Tuesday, police said. Police said they were responding to an accident nearby when they spotted the scene on Appleridge near West Fuqua. After reviewing surveillance video, investigators said it appears several men got out of a white Toyota Sequoia and approached the victim’s vehicle. Police said that’s when at least one of the suspects shot him before they all got away. Police said there is no word yet on a motive or any arrests.

Missouri City City Council unanimously approved a $0.63 rate rate per $100 evaluation during a regular meeting Oct. 7. The $0.63 rate is composed of two parts: a $0.47 maintenance and operations rate and a $0.16 debt service rate. Missouri City approves first stage of Fort Bend Town Center
A new agreement between the city of Missouri City and NewQuest Properties sets off the development of Fort Bend Town Center II. Missouri City City Council voted Aug. 5 to execute a Chapter 380 agreement with NewQuest to pay for the new 250,000-square-foot retail center at the corner of Hwy. Under Texas law, a Chapter 380 agreement authorizes municipalities to offer loans and grants of city funds to promote economic development. The citys Economic Development Director Joe Esch said he has been working with NewQuest on this project for the past nine months. Hakeem Olajuwons Dream Court is one step closer to development. Olajuwons representative, Noble Enloe, spoke to Missouri City City Council on Aug. 5 about the project, which is going into the former Tang City Plaza development off of Hwy. We already have several businesses lined up to rent space.Olajuwon, the property owner, wanted to amend an ordinance to allow for office and warehouse uses as well as commercial uses. New map shows Missouri City traffic flow
Missouri City drivers have a new way to see traffic patterns around the city. The city unveiled its new travel map that shows all of the major corridors, including Hwy. Its a real-time speed map of the citys roadways that includes vehicle travel times, the Dynamic Message Signs and still photos of the citys closed-circuit television cameras, said Kevin Cummings, Missouri City traffic operations manager, in a statement. The IDs are analyzed through an algorithm that is based on roadway speed limits and vehicle speed limits. Missouri City to improve intersections along growing Sienna Parkway corridor
Drivers passing through four intersections along Sienna Parkway in Missouri City will see some roadwork happen in 2020 amid continued commercial and residential growth in the Sienna Plantation area. Intersection improvements are proposed at Trammel-Fresno Road, Fort Bend Parkway Toll Road, Watts Plantation Road and Sienna Ranch Road, according to the city. Sienna Parkway is the main thoroughfare for the Sienna Plantation master-planned community. There is a lot of traffic there, so we are looking at improvements, including enhancements to signals and lanes, said Shashi Kumar, public works director and city engineer, at the June 17 Missouri City City Council meeting. Jump Swim Schools is opening two locations, one in Missouri City at 9101 Sienna Crossing, and one in Sugar Land at 17101 W. Grand Pkwy S. Based in Australia, the boutique facility offers swimming lessons, specializing in babies and beginning swimmers ages 3 months-10 years old. Lessons are given two at a time for a more private experience, said James Rice, head of commercial for Jump. The Missouri City school construction timeline is still being confirmed, but Rice said he expected it to open in the fall. Missouri Citys Glenn Lakes bridge to close for construction July 29
A full closure of the bridge on Glenn Lakes Lane in Missouri City is expected to take place July 29 in order for reconstruction of the bridge near Highland Lakes Drive. Construction is expected to take about 365 days to complete. The city of Missouri City said in a release staff posted signs and message boards along the eastbound and westbound lanes July 15 to alert commuters of the upcoming closures. Renovations to Missouri City Fire Station No. 1 will proceed following the adoption of an interlocal agreement between the city of Missouri City and Fort Bend County. The fire station has hosted Fort Bend County emergency medical services since 2017, which includes two paramedics. Missouri City Mayor Yolanda Ford and DeMerchant worked together on the agreement. After nearly two decades of sitting empty, the Tang City Plaza development is getting a new life. The 9.4-acre development was constructed in the 1980s to provide shops and a restaurant in Missouri City off of Hwy. Property owner and former Houston Rocket Hakeem Olajuwon purchased Tang City Plaza in 2000 with plans to build a mosque, private school, library and gardens, according to Community Impact Newspaper reports. Olajuwon aims to use the former building footprints and pavement for Dream Court, according to city documents.
