HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Texas State Highway 99 and the intersection where it meets Farm-to-Market Road 529 have caused continuous traffic problems as the Cypress and Katy areas continue to grow, with roads struggling to keep up with demand.
Currently, a misleading road configuration is causing drivers to either break traffic laws in the area or end up on SH 99 and pay a toll because of their mistake.

Those comments reflect the common concern that current lane markings, direction rules, and road layout have created confusion for residents and others not familiar with the area.
KPRC 2 reached out to the Texas Department of Transportation with the concerns, and TxDOT said that it would send crews to the area to determine how improvements can be made.
Additionally, TxDOT told KPRC 2 the access road in the area stretching from Longenbaugh Road to FM 529 will help alleviate some of the traffic issues arising from rapid development and an increase in local drivers.
