HOUSTON – Traveler’s Cart announced it will close down on Friday, July 31. The restaurant opened on Montrose Boulevard in October, 2023.
It was a spinoff to the restaurant group’s Traveler’s Table.

In a news release, the group says Traveler’s Cart will close on Friday to give the community a chance to enjoy one last meal at the restaurant.
The group adds they are actively helping the employees find new jobs in the area.
Traveler’s Table will remain open and some of the employees will move there.
The two restaurants were owned by Matthew Mitchell and his wife Thy Mai.
On May 4th of this year, Houston Police Investigators say Mitchell killed his wife, two young children, then himself.
Tonight, the family of Thy Mai is filing a wrongful death lawsuit against the estate of Matthew Mitchell.
In the lawsuit, they claim Mitchell planned the murders and say Mitchell made statements recorded by a Ring camera in the two weeks leading up to the triple murder suicide.
According to the lawsuit, Mitchell was worried about money and said, “I can’t stop it for myself. I can’t stop it for them. I can’t stop it for...I’m in such a deep hole. I’m sorry Mr. Mai.”
The lawsuit also alleges that Mitchell moved more than a million dollars into accounts in his mother’s name, and that Mitchell caused the death of their daughter and grand children.
Mai’s family is asking the court to order a stop to all money transfers, and for Traveler’s Table to be managed by an independent executor of the estate of Thy Mai Mitchell.
