HOUSTON – With Houston’s heat index pushing into triple digits, Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones is giving families a cooler option — and more time to use it.
Starting July 3, splash pads across Precinct 4 parks will open two hours earlier than usual, welcoming visitors at 8 a.m. The free splash pads will be available daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for the remainder of the summer season.

Stay safe in the heat this holiday weekend
Even with splash pads available, officials are reminding families to take additional precautions during the holiday weekend. Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, take breaks indoors, wear light-colored clothing, and apply sunscreen frequently when spending time outside.
With heat indexes soaring across the Houston area, these small steps can make a big difference — especially for young children and older adults who are most vulnerable to heat-related illness.
