Suspect in custody after hours-long SWAT standoff at Washington Avenue Corridor

HOUSTON – A suspect is in police custody following an hours-long standoff with Houston Police near Washington Avenue.

The Houston Police Department said they received a call Saturday morning around 5 a.m. referencing a shooting at a property near Center and Studemont Streets.

HPD said one person was shot and transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police said other people exited the property safely.

SWAT was called in and the suspect was taken into custody later that afternoon.
