Man taken to hospital by helicopter after shooting self during police pursuit in stolen car

A man who was involved in a police pursuit in the Katy area has been rushed to a hospital after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The incident was reported by Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez at around 1:45 p.m. It reportedly happened near the intersection of Highway 290 and Becker Road.

A viewer reached out to KPRC 2, saying that he witnessed Katy Police Department officials taking the man out of his vehicle and rushing him to the hospital.

The events leading up to the shooting are not clear at this time.
