Aid for Houston flowing in from different states

Volunteers in Michigan, Wisconsin, Alabama, New Hampshire sending donations

HOUSTON – "Houston Strong" is being felt across the country. Help is pouring in from different states just looking to do what they can.

Volunteers in Michigan, Wisconsin, Alabama and New Hampshire are all sending donations.

Thousands of miles away from home, Sherrie Handrinos' cellphone needs a constant charge. The pictures and videos being sent from Detroit are overwhelming.

Handrinos is in public relations and was in Houston when Harvey hit. She's been stuck here ever since. So instead of wasting her time, she organized a Stuff-A-Semi event near Detroit.

The response was overwhelming. The goal was to maybe fill one U-Haul. Instead, five semitrucks will be on their way.

When the trucks arrive, they'll unload behind a Twin Peaks restaurant where owner Ricky Rosa will turn an extra building into a store with everything given away for free.

Detroit isn't the only area sending help, though. An Elks lodge in Alabama also sent a semitruck stuffed with donations, and wisconsin is sending  what Wisconsin has -- 17,000 pounds of cheese.

There's other types of help too. For instance, Franklin Pierce University in New Hampshire will take 20 students offering free tuition.
