List: Best places around Houston to celebrate 713 Day

HOUSTON – Independence weekend is over and now Houston looks toward its next celebration of history on 713 Day, highlighting all there is to love about H-Town.

Although a lot has changed overtime, 713 traces back to the cities original area code created in 1947. Now, July 7, is marked as the day Houstonians can enjoy the cities culture with a variety of fun events.

Here’s the highlights of this year’s lineup:

Houston Zoo | 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. | 2500-2800 Navigation Blvd, Houston, TX 77003

Starting things off with a 713 Day staple, the Houston Zoo has $7.13 admission for the special weekend running from July 11 - July 13.

There are also opportunities to recycle retired electronics for a chance to win a painting by Houston Zoo animals (Yes, animals. You heard that right)!

Betelgeuse Betelgeuse | 4 p.m. - 10 p.m. | 2101 Washington Ave, Houston, TX 77007 & 4500 Montrose Blvd, Houston, TX 77006

713 Day Club Fest is what they are calling it at Betelgeuse Betelgeuse. There will be food, drinks, music and endless deals to enjoy.

You can even come home with some fresh new ink.

The first three people to enter at each location get a free 713 themed tattoo, after that you can enter a drawing to enter names being called out throughout the evening.

Not enough Free?

There will be another drawing to get free pizza for a year at either location.

And even if you don’t win anything, you can still enjoy the environment with $7.13 priced cocktails and pizzas.

Is there a more Houston way to celebrate than a block party?

The Esplanade at Navigation will be the host site for the street market which will include local shops, food, music, art, and even classic cars while rocking to a live music.

There is free admission for guest, so just show up and have fun.

POST Meditation | 7:13 p.m. | 401 Franklin St, Houston, TX 77210

The POST is bringing the peace to H-Town with a night meditation event starting at 7:13 p.m. The event gives the opportunity to take a break and reconnect to the city with crystal singing bowls and harmonic instruments.

Organizers say to bring a yoga mat or blanket, an open mind, open heart and to where comfortable clothing.

Meow Wolf | 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. | 2103 Lyons Ave, Houston, TX 77020

This one is for the art fans. Meow Wolf is hosting a celebration where you can immerge in a 1.5-hour art exhibit inspired by a radio station where you can follow different characters through being pulled through an alternative dimension.

The event will also have live music by Icehouse Radio and indoor festivities.

Cost for ages 13+ is $39, while ages 4-12 is $19. A 10% discount is available to those who book online before the event.

Saint Arnold | 4 p.m. - 10 p.m. | 2000 Lyons Ave, Houston, TX 77020

The beer garden will have a day filled with fun from a local Houston DJ to live Mariachi. Furthermore, there will be a local market, special frozen cider and 713 flash tattoos.

The night will cap off with a performance by BLAZE x BLACK at 7:13 p.m.
