Today’s Forecast:
As soon as you step outside, you’ll feel the heat and humidity! Morning temperatures will start near 80 degrees before climbing into the low to mid-90s during the afternoon. When you factor in the humidity, however, it will feel closer to 105 to 110 degrees for much of the day
We’ll also be keeping an eye on a few scattered showers and thunderstorms developing late in the day and into Friday night as a weak boundary approaches from the north. Not everyone will see rain, but any storm that develops could produce brief heavy downpours due to the tropical moisture in place. Most of the day will be dry, with the best chance for rain arriving after sunset and continuing overnight.
Father’s Day Weekend:
Heat will definitely be a factor for this weekend if you have any plans for the Juneteenth weekend. As we head into Friday we expect to hit a high of 94. Doesn’t sound so bad of course until you factor in the humidity which will make it feel like 109!
But double check the radar before you head out because we are tracking early morning thunderstorms. We have a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms for Friday and Saturday morning.
Plus, triple-digit feels-like temperatures this weekend. Make sure to stay hydrated and wear your sunscreen if your plans take you outside.
With a Heat Advisory in effect, it’s important to take the heat seriously, this is not the kind of weather to push through.
Heat is one of the deadliest weather hazards we face, and when heat index values are soaring into the dangerous range, your body can overheat faster than you might expect.
Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
Limit strenuous outdoor activity, especially during the hottest afternoon hours, and if you have air conditioning, use it. Fans alone may not be adequate in this kind of extreme heat.
Wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothing if you do head outside, seek shade when possible, and check on elderly neighbors, young children, and pets. And never, under any circumstances, leave a person or animal alone in a closed car.
It takes only minutes for a car’s interior to reach life-threatening temperatures.
10-day forecast:
The 10-day forecast is a familiar one for Southeast Texas, hot, humid, and steamy. Highs will stay in the low to mid 90s with heat index values continuing to run well above 100 degrees into next week.
Isolated storm chances will pop up from time to time. In other words, it’s a classic Houston summer, keep the water bottle handy and the AC running.
