BAYTOWN, Texas – The Baytown Police Department says a wanted fugitive died after falling unconscious and suffering a medical emergency as officers were attempting to bring him into custody Tuesday.

It happened in the 4300 block of Crosby-Cedar Bayou Road when officers conducted a traffic stop on a fugitive wanted by the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
During the stop, police say the wanted subject and a second individual refused to comply with officers’ commands. Officers used pepper ball munitions and a police K-9 to try and bring them into custody. One of the individuals was taken into custody while police say the wanted fugitive crawled into the trunk of the vehicle.
When officers were able to open the trunk, Baytown PD says the wanted man was found unconscious inside and in medical distress.
Medical aid was given and the man was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Baytown police say no firearms were discharged during the incident.
The investigation remains active.
