Investigators said three men were seen around the vehicle multiple times over several hours, then drove to a Home Depot where they bought items police described as “burglary tools.” Police said evidence collected in Pennsylvania matches similar items the men purchased in Greenfield.
Just before midnight Sunday, officers saw the three leave the hotel and get into the vehicle, with one appearing to change clothes. Greenfield police, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department and Indiana State Police attempted a traffic stop but the driver took off.
Officers deployed a spike strip, flattening three tires, but the vehicle continued onto Interstate 70. A State Police trooper then used a PIT maneuver to immobilize the SUV. All three men were then taken into custody .
Police identified the suspects as Myron R. Causey, 27, of Houston; Za Cobi M. Demas, 28, of Houston; and Dewitt E. Ross, 30, of Humble, Texas. All three were booked into the Hancock County Jail, where they are being held. Police said a Hancock County judge granted a 72-hour hold as the investigation continues in Hancock County and Pennsylvania.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the men or similar burglary cases to contact the Greenfield Police Department.
