Damage assessment underway after severe storms hit Houston

HOUSTON – We had a pretty eventful night in Houston, with the storms damaging many neighborhoods and businesses.

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Southeast Texas is no longer in effect and Houston is now in the clear, for the most part. The rest of our Wednesday will be mostly cloudy with peeks of sunshine here and there. Temperatures will warm to the mid-70s, and the rest of the week should be the complete opposite of the beginning of the week.

Wednesday Morning Recap

If you were asleep, like most of us, you probably didn’t realize there was a storm outside that dropped heavy rain and produced strong winds that left damage to buildings in the Katy area and some homes in the Spring area. Lucky for you, our KPRC 2 crews were there to catch it all.

In Katy, a Firestone Complete Autocare on S Mason Road building lobby completely collapsed.

Also, next door, the Bourbon Street Sports Bar windows blew out and the roof was damaged.

A bank across from the plaza was also damaged and their signs were found on the opposite side of the street.

As of Wednesday at 9 a.m., crews were still out assessing all of the damage and working to clean up the mess. Several homes also reported having trees fall on them.

And just miles away from that incident, deputies responded to a crash on Birnam Wood and Tylergate Drive where a vehicle was seen stuck in between a downed tree. The driver sustained minor injuries.
