Levee at Columbia Lakes in Brazoria County breached

BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas – The levee at Columbia Lakes has been breached Tuesday morning, the Brazoria County Office of Emergency Management said.

Officials urge residents near the levee to leave immediately.

"There should not be people there. They were ordered to evacuate several days ago," Brazoria County Judge Matt Sebesta told KPRC2.

To evacuate Columbia Lakes, officials said to "go left to Bailey's Prairie to 35, take 521 going towards Brazoria, then 332 to Lake Jackson."

Shelters are available in Clute, Angleton, Manvel and Alvin.

County officials also urged people to "Please limit cell phone use to emergency only."
