HOUSTON – Houston police were called to an apartment complex parking garage in the 8800 block of Westheimer Road around 11:45 p.m. Saturday after a report of a person down, authorities said. Officers arrived minutes later and encountered an armed man standing over an unresponsive person who appeared to have suffered gunshot wounds.

One resident, Michael, said he was headed out for work when the scene erupted. “I heard pops. I was trying to leave for work. I don’t know what the f--- happened here,” he said.
Police said officers ordered the armed suspect to drop the weapon, but he did not comply. Multiple officers then fired, striking the suspect, according to HPD.
“Officers gave commands to put down a weapon. The suspect was armed. The suspect did not comply. Multiple officers discharged. The suspect was struck. HFD responded. Suspect was pronounced deceased. Once HFD pronounced the suspect deceased, the unresponsive male was also pronounced deceased,” Assistant Chief Patricia Cantu said at the scene.
The Houston Fire Department pronounced both men dead, officials said. Investigators had not released information early Sunday about what led up to the shooting, or whether the suspect had a criminal history.
Another resident, Melissa, said the violence didn’t feel isolated. “It’s not the first time this has happened here, sadly. The area is not the safest,” she said. “I really wish it was more safe, but it really comes down to the people behaving better.”
The incident remains under investigation by the Houston Police Department. HPD said police bodycam video will be released within 30 days of the incident.
