Volunteers to spread the word, pick up homeless people and donations of essentials are still needed, said Morales. When the spaces closes, volunteers help the men find somewhere to spend the night. They open their homes, drive them to shelters or work with other nonprofits to get them a hotel room.

When that bowl game was called off because there was not another team available, it suddenly left Army looking for a postseason opponent. A spot in the Liberty Bowl became available Monday when Tennessee became the first team to back out since bowl berths were announced. The change to its Liberty Bowl opponent was no problem for West Virginia (5-4). โOur team deserves to be in a bowl and so does the 9-2 Army squad,โ West Virginia athletic director Shane Lyons said. Frankly, I think we were stunned to find out the opportunity would be in a bowl like the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.
Christian nonprofit provides Thanksgiving boxes for over 900 families in Houston
HOUSTON โ With Thanksgiving less than a week away, a Christian nonprofit organization is making sure families have what they need. The Forge for Families Center held its seventh annual Boxes of Love event on Saturday. Over 900 families received boxes of food with all of the trimmings and a Carnegie hen. Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church has participated in the Boxes of Love event for the past six years. Saturday was the last day for the food boxes.
Recovery Houston brings dozens of volunteers to help Hurricane Laura Survivors
โ Recovery Houston volunteers made their way to Lake Charles, Louisiana to help those who were hardest hit by Hurricane Laura. That event became the first chapter of the Recovery Houston organization, founded by Creech. Creech KPRC 2โs coverage of Recovery Houston was recognized by President Barack Obama as one of his most memorable humanitarian stories of 2017. When Hurricane Laura hit, Creech knew Recovery Houston had to get involved. โI woke up this morning feeling really good that I was able to help somebody,โ Bradley Dennison, a Recovery Houston volunteer said.
Houston Food Bank welcomes volunteers at warehouse facility on cityโs northside
HOUSTON โ The Houston Food Bank has rented an additional warehouse facility on the cityโs northside. The new warehouse is expected to help alleviate the stress and demand on the main warehouse and dock area at the Food Bankโs I-10 and Gellhorn location, now referred to as the East Branch. The additional warehouse at 146 Knobcrest, which Houston Food Bank is referring to as North Branch, is a 128,000 square-foot facility that will handle all types of products (dry, refrigerated, frozen and items specific for disaster response). The Food Bank will primarily be operating mobile distributions and home deliveries from this location. Individuals and small group volunteers (up to 10 people) opportunities are available.

CBS News has obtained evidence that the Peace Corps is struggling with sexual assaults in its ranks. A survey shows nearly 20 percent of volunteers experienced some type of sexual assault, and more than half of those say they suffered repeat attacks.
