‘No place for a celebration:’ Lamar Consolidated ISD students demand district to change prom from former plantation
HOUSTON – Students enrolled in Lamar Consolidated ISD expressed disappointment Wednesday over plans to host senior prom at a well-known former plantation. AdThe George Ranch Historical Park’s website doesn’t shy away from the site’s past as a former plantation. “George Ranch Historical Park is an educational place and there’s no denying that and it’s learning about the history there. Here is the full statement released by Lama Consolidated ISD:Due to COVID-19 considerations, the District is holding all 2021 proms at the George Ranch Historical Park’s outdoor covered arena. We are looking forward to providing all of our seniors with an official school prom after COVID-19 prevented this event last spring.
One Good Thing: 7-year-old puts prom party together for babysitter
A teenage girl in North Carolina couldn't attend her high school prom because of the coronavirus, but she still had a special bash thrown just for her by a boy that she babysits. Curtis Rogers, 7, hadnt seen his nanny Rachel in two months because of COVDI-19 when prom finally came around. Curtis had the whole night planned out, from their favorite afterschool snack, peanut butter and apples as an appetizer to using a pool noodle to maintain a safe social distance. Local high school seniors missing prom, but staying positive
HOUSTON – Everyone looks forward the to the end of their senior year in high school: graduation, a fancy senior prom, and the final memories with friends and classmates. Students in the class of 2020 had an abrupt end to their final year of high school, but that hasn’t stopped these bright kids from staying positive, appreciative and optimistic about the future. California teen crowned prom king from hospital bed
California teen crowned prom king from hospital bed Cody Smith may have been unable to attend his prom, but that didn't prevent the 17-year-old from being named prom king. Smith recently learned that his germ cell cancer had spread to his brain, forcing him to be hospitalized during his prom. His principal and classmates hoped that honoring him would help lift his spirits.
