This week’s KPRC Pet Project pup is Serena. Serena has had a rough start in 2021 after being dumped in our parking lot. She has lived with the Houston Humane Society for 243 days now and cannot wait for a loving family to choose her.

While volunteering with the Houston Humane Society Riley Burwell noticed some pups were often getting passed over due to their condition. Through some creative fundraising, Burwell found a way to help sponsor their treatment and find them forever homes.

Houston nonprofit launches free pet boarding program to aid survivors of domestic violence
Houston nonprofit PetSet has launched Pet Protect, a free pet boarding initiative for survivors of domestic violence. The initiative aims to create an opportunity for individuals to flee dangerous environments safely without having to leave behind their pets. Since the stay-home, work-safe order was enacted, weve seen an increase in reports of domestic violence, Co-President of Houston PetSet Tama Lundquist said. Unfortunately, we know that oftentimes an abuser will use a pet as leverage to keep their victim in the home. Too often it is not just innocent people that are subjected to violence but their pets endure abuse as well, Houston Dog Ranch owner Matt Bryant said.
Amazon driver accused of stealing dog while on delivery and trying to sell it for $100

She has since been fired from Amazon.
